Mass insulations, no matter how thick they are, have almost no ability to reflect radiant energy. In fact, they act as like a battery, storing and re-radiating heat.

By addressing only "R" values, most insulation installers ignore the major problem of radiant heat transfer. By using a Radiant Barrier, you can reflect the heat back to the source. Therefore, buildings become more temperature consistent and more economical to operate. Like a thermos ® bottle, Therm-Attic’s barrier will also keep cool things cool. It is simple to conclude that on a hot summer day your building will be protected from heat by reflecting it away, while at the same time permitting the air conditioning to operate efficiently. In the winter the reverse becomes true, your expensive heat is reflected back into the building, once again making efficient use of your heating system. Therm-Attic’s product is formulated to be sprayed on the under side of the roof deck. When applied it creates an effective Radiant Barrier that will stop 75% of the potential radiant energy transfer. The product has an “e”- value of .25. The “e” refers to emissivity which is the ability of a surface to emit or absorb radiant energy. A lower e-value means a more efficient the barrier, and the greater the energy savings.
